Now lets visit Tournefeuille a bit further afield...

Tournefeuille is cut in half by a little stream, called the Touch. The Touch meanders through a shallow wooded valley, adjacent to the very centre of the village. Slightly lower than the town itself, this area is maybe the source of the town's name, but is definitely responsable for its charm...

Coming from rue Gaston Doumergue, this main road into the village centre runs across the Touch, before it reaches the housing estates on the other side.

The slope down from the town is occupied by an old farmstead and a mill.

There used to be a wicked old barking dog there who made trespassing the mill a hazardous affair...

Now we are at Tournefeuille's Town Hall, an old chateau that has been taken over by the community. The area surrounding the Town Hall and its large square is occupied by public buildings : the communal cinema, the music school, a kindergarten, a community centre for the aged...

The Town Hall is a gracious, "U" shaped building - the red brick is a local particularity.

Every Sunday, the cars leave the square, giving way to a large food market, whose reputation goes way beyond the boundaries of Tournefeuille.

The back facade of the Town Hall recalls rural beginnings...

But the Music School is very modern. The young musicians who wanted their picture taken thought I was kidding when I told them that they'd be on the Web...
